Velankanni is one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations in Asia. Every year, millions of devotees travel from across India and the world to seek the blessings of Our Lady of Good Health. Getting there requires a bit of planning - the town sits on the Nagapattinam coast in Tamil Nadu, and while it is well connected by road and rail, there is no airport in Velankanni itself.
This guide covers how to reach Velankanni from eight major cities: Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, and Kochi. For each city you will find bus, train, road, and air options with approximate costs and travel times so you can choose what works best for your group.
Before you travel, it helps to know what to expect during your first visit and check the mass timings at the Basilica so you can plan your day of arrival around services that matter to you. You may also want to review our pilgrimage itinerary suggestions to make the most of your time at the shrine.
