Hotels in Velankanni 2026: Nearly 200 Stays Near the Basilica, Compared

Velankanni has a lot of places to stay for a small town: simple pilgrim lodges a few steps from the Basilica, bigger hotels on Main Road, sea-facing rooms on Beach Road, and rooms run by the shrine itself. This page lists every stay we cover, so you can compare them in one place instead of opening each listing.

The table below has all of them. Sort it by rating or number of reviews, filter by area or type, or search for a name. Each name links to that stay’s page, with its phone number, address, map and FAQs.

Where to stay: the main areas

Near the Basilica

About half the stays on this site are in the streets immediately around the Basilica, such as Uthiriyamatha Kovil Street, Church Road and Arya Nattu Street. Most are small lodges with a few dozen reviews each, so check recent reviews before you book. Among those with more than 100 reviews, Hotel Grace Inn, Hotel Christo’s and Abidharpp Inn rate highest, and Hotel Seagate and Seagate Church View Resorts are the most reviewed. This is the easiest base for early Masses and the busiest area during the feast. All stays near the Basilica.

Beach Road

Beach Road and the streets off it, including Ariyanattu Street, have about 30 stays and are the closest part of town to the beach. The area has some of the best-rated larger hotels in town: Sri Gnana Vedha Beach Residency (4.6★ from over 2,600 reviews), Hotel Peters Inn (4.6★) and Hotel Annai Bay (4.4★), with Hotel Queens Inn and Hotel Paradise also well reviewed. All stays on Beach Road.

Main Road

Main Road has fewer stays, but three of the most-reviewed stays in Velankanni are here: Hotel Selvies, Hotel Mary Land Suites (4.7★) and MGM Vailankanni Residency. Hotel Dravidar (4.4★) is also on this stretch. If you want a hotel with thousands of reviews to judge it by, look here first. All stays on Main Road.

Near the railway station

Only two stays on our list are on Railway Station Road: Thiruvalluvar Rest House and Annai Mariya Rooms. Both have few reviews, so call ahead. If you arrive late by train and they are full, the lodges around the Basilica are an auto ride away. Stays near the railway station.

Near the bus stand

A handful of lodges sit by the Velankanni bus stand, useful if your bus gets in late at night. Hotel Rhea Park, behind the bus stand, is the most reviewed of them. Ratings here are lower on average than near the Basilica, so read recent reviews first. All stays near the bus stand.

Shrine-run rooms vs private lodges

The shrine runs its own pilgrim rooms, booked at its room booking office on MDR544. They are the cheapest rooms in town, but they work very differently from a private lodge.

How the counter works, its hours and what to bring: shrine room booking office guide. The shrine’s pilgrim quarters listed on this site are Assisi Block 2, Assisi Block 4, Christ the King Pilgrims Quarters and St Peter and Paul Pilgrims Quarters.

Booking tips

• Annual feast (29 August – 8 September): book several weeks ahead. The night of 7 September is the hardest to find.
• Weekends and holidays fill faster than weekdays, and rates go up.
• Check the check-in and check-out times when you book; some lodges are strict.
• Carry cash. Many small lodges do not take cards.
